Sources & methodology

Olympic and FIVB World Championship podiums for men (our curated tables) and women (read from English Wikipedia's medal articles and checked against their medal tables). The Soviet Union folds into Russia; Yugoslavia into Serbia; East Germany is kept as its own nation, attributed per edition. Olympic gold is the headline honour; nations are ranked by it.

The world rankings are our own Elo, from international tournament results on Wikipedia (women's internationals from 1952), as on the Nations board. Against FIVB's own ranking, our women's top 20 agrees closely. LOVB Pro champions, shown in the domestic hub, come from lovb.com and Wikipedia's season articles (CC BY-SA).
