Our World in Data (CC BY 4.0), compiled from the Energy Institute Statistical Review of World Energy and the US Energy Information Administration. Output is measured in TWh of energy content, so shares are comparable across fuels. Named countries account for 98.4% of the 2025 world total; the remainder is output the source reports only inside regional aggregates rather than by country.
About this series
Closing levels, one point per trading day. Yahoo Finance chart API. Continuous front-month futures; the long series carries roll discontinuities. Prices are in US dollars. Where the long history is stitched from more than one instrument the join is named above, with the divergence across the overlapping days measured rather than asserted. They are quoted nominally by default, with a Real toggle that deflates by US CPI, because this is priced in US dollars (World Bank FP.CPI.TOTL, US series extended to 1913 from the BLS via FRED) and expresses the whole history in 2026 money. Inflation data is annual, so the deflator is interpolated between mid-year points, and the real view begins in 1913, where that CPI record starts. None of this is investment advice; all of it is geography with a time axis.
