2004 European Parliament Election

The big-bang election

10–13 June 2004 · Enlargement & empowerment · 732 seats, 367 for a majority · 25 member states

The first election after the big-bang enlargement: 342 million eligible voters in 25 countries, the largest transnational vote ever held to that point. Ten mostly ex-communist new member states elected their first MEPs, turnout hit a new low of 45%, and UKIP's 12 seats previewed a rising eurosceptic tide.
