On November 10, 1673, Michael Korybut Wiśniowiecki, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, suddenly died in Lwów. The Polish throne was vacant again, so another free election was necessary.
A royal free election of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth: the assembled nobility chose the king. Vast for its era, the franchise was still nobility-only — and later elections were swayed openly by foreign money and armies.
