Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre won with 32.97% against Fernando Belaúnde Terry on 32.21%. Turnout 88.7%.

Haya de la Torre's plurality fell just short of the constitutional one-third threshold, and a military coup annulled the result before Congress could settle it.
