1997 Indonesian Legislative Election

Golkar's last managed win

29 May 1997 · The New Order's managed elections · 425 seats, 213 for a majority

Legislative elections were held in Indonesia on 29 May 1997. There were three simultaneous elections in one because voters were electing members of two levels of regional government (provincial and regency levels) as well as the national-level People's Representative Council.

A managed election under Suharto's New Order: only sanctioned parties could run and the ruling Golkar's victory was engineered in advance. Recorded here as history, not as a free election.
