1977 Indonesian Legislative Election

2 May 1977 · The New Order's managed elections · 360 seats, 181 for a majority

In 1971, the New Order regime of Indonesia held the first legislative elections since 1955 in an effort to establish a system of government with President Suharto and the Indonesian military in control and to give this system legitimacy.

A managed election under Suharto's New Order: only sanctioned parties could run and the ruling Golkar's victory was engineered in advance. Recorded here as history, not as a free election.
