1969 Brazilian Presidential Election

25 October 1969 · The military regime's electoral college

The National Congress had been closed since Institutional Act Number Five was issued on 13 December 1968. President Artur da Costa e Silva left office on 14 October due to ill health, later dying on 17 December.

An indirect vote under the military regime: the president was ratified by a purged Congress or electoral college, with the outcome guaranteed in advance. Recorded here as history, not as a free election.
