Method
Art is where power goes to become permanent. Here is how the hub counts it.
Data as of 29 Oct 2026 ยท Wikidata, curated registries
The canon
A work counts when a top-tier artist made it and it is notable itself, when it is widely documented, or when a national registry lists it. Registries include Japan's National Treasures and China's first-grade relics. A curated seed covers Asian collections. Painting, sculpture, ceramics and calligraphy count.
Founder type
Each museum is sorted by who built it: a crown, a state, a church, a private bequest, a private foundation, a corporation, or conquest. The rule reads the founder, owner or operator recorded in Wikidata. Where nothing is recorded the museum stays unclassified.
Makers
Artists are placed in the century and metro of their birth. Only painters, sculptors and other visual artists with a wide Wikidata footprint are counted. An artist who worked elsewhere still counts where they were born.
Limits
The visible canon leans Western, and Asian collections are seeded, so their counts are a floor. Private collections cannot be seen. The hub counts notable works and never prices. It does not feed the Metro Power score.
Where these numbers come from
Wikidata (CC0) for works, museums and artists. Japan National Treasure and China first-grade relic registries for registry works.
